Anthony Fielding, Founding Partner

Anthony has a diverse background, having started his post-secondary education in science and completing his doctorate in oceanography in 2000 while at the same time beginning the Chartered Accounting program. The founding partner of Bluenose Accounting, he has over 20 years of accounting and tax experience, including personal tax, small owner-managed businesses, not-for-profit auditing, and bookkeeping training. More recently, Anthony has focused on corporate accounting and tax planning, with an emphasis on professional corporations, where he often recommends holding companies and family trusts to achieve tax minimization. He also heads up the personal-tax group within the firm, filing over a thousand returns per year, and helps manage the bookkeeping team.

Outside of the world of accounting, Anthony enjoys landscaping, sports, summer recreation activities, and travel. Some of his more interesting destinations include the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, and St. Petersburg, Russia. His children are both avid soccer players, and Anthony has coached and volunteered in the soccer community. He is currently the treasurer of the Hammonds Plains Area Business Association. His spouse makes natural soaps, bath products, and cosmetics.

  • Federal Budget - 2016

Well, the much-anticipated first federal budget of the Trudeau Liberal era has arrived. The focus was on improving the Canadian economy and also removing most of the vestiges of the Conservatives. As was expected, there is a big deficit, meaning that the country is going further into debt. The deficit for fiscal 2017 will be close to $30 billion. Much of the spending is directed at infrastructure, including public transit, housing, and green technology. Enhancements to the EI program include expanded access, a reduction in the waiting periods, and an extension of benefits in certain regions of the country. The seniors’ Guaranteed Income Supplement amounts have been increased, and OAS eligibility will remain at age 65. Below are some brief comments focused on taxation for individuals and corporations.
